Curing Acne For Good

If you've been scouring the shops (and by shops I mean internet because who's willing to brave the cold of the English spring?) for the miracle cure for acne... HALT! The simple truth is, there's no product on the shelves of Boots, L'occitane or even Creme de la Mer that'll rid your skin of pesky pimples for good.

What you put into your body is what you'll get out of it.

When it comes to beauty detoxing and dieting the current custom is to fixate on putting natural products into our bodies for a relatively short period of time. We steer clear of unrecognisable ingredients, we eliminate E numbers from our diet and say no processed 'foods' like cakes and chips. While this is a good place to start, it isn't going to eradicate our problems.

So what is?
Well, if your issue is acne related, there is one product you're probably purchasing that is doing your skin a world of terror. Dairy.

While dairy is a product that is lining our supermarket shelves (and even earning itself dedicated isles), it is not the innocent it would have us believe.

How does dairy cause acne?

We are allergic to cow's milk.

  • We are simply unable to digest milk from other animals. Our enzymes are unable to break down the large molecules into single nutrients so our bodies react as if under attack, treating it as an invasion as it would an infection, causing inflammation and oxidative stress - pimples.
  • Cow's milk comes from pregnant cows who produce high levels of hormones which is then passed on through their milk. Our sebaceous (skin) glands convert them into DHT (dihydrotestosterone) which boosts sebum. Sebum is what makes the skin oily, which in moderation is healthy but an overload of it clogs the pores and creating pimples.

  • It is incredibly fatty. Fat causes blood sugar levels to rapidly rise and fall, leading to cascading hormonal reactions and increased sebum. It also slows down the transport of oxygen which aggravates the skin further.

This is not down to whether or not you're lactose intolerant or genetically predisposed to more spot-prone skin, it's whether or not you're human. If yes, do not drink milk from another animal. It'll give you acne, breakouts, blemishes, rosacea and / or eczema. And that's just your skin.

A healthier option.

Plant based foods and drink are healthy because they're natural. Try a few of the listed below and pick your favorite (mine's rice milk!).
