Eyeshadows | It's a Steal
This week my
It's a Steal series is back with a vengeance. I love a good neutral eye and am a sucker for anything taupe, bronze, or cream so I have amounted quite the shadow collection over the years. I've paired my drugstore favourites down to the absolute best (and what I wear most frequently) and
hopefully there's something for all of you... unless you're into a lot colour.
hopefully there's something for all of you... unless you're into a lot colour.
The
NYX Bohemian Chic palette is an old one but a good one. I've had this for a good few years but the colours are still some of the best understated neutrals at a great price-point. It's very compact (and even comes with blushers in a pull-out drawer with 6 blue-tone shadows and two larger blushes) and full of basic shades so is perfect for taking on holiday. It comes with all of the shades you need for a nude, neutral, or smokey eye. The quality is fantastic, too, with great staying power and high pigmentation.
The
Rimmel Glam'Eyes HD Eyeshadow in Brixton Brown is my latest purchase. Truthfully, I bought it because I needed a third item to fulfil the 3 for 2 offer in Boots and I had remembered
Lily Pebbles blogging about it recently, but I'm so glad I picked this little guy up! It comes with four neutral shades and one brighter pinky-purple shade in the centre. I love the look of the bottom two colours; one is quite plumy and the other a nice shimmery taupe. This is a really easy palette to dress down for everyday looks but also stick in the handbag for an easy transition into a nighttime smokey look... perfect for keeping in the work bag for an easy work-to-party transition.
The
MUA Heaven and Earth palette was once raved about here in the blog scene a couple of years ago but has since disappeared. I want to rekindle my love for this guy because it honestly deserves it. The quality of these shadows is fantastic, especially considering the ridiculously low price for 12 amazing shades. In fact, this is the cheapest of the bunch... even surpassing the single shades! Don't let that fool you into thinning anything less, though, because this palette has incredible pigmentation. It's full of golden-bronze shimmer (think bronze goddess) and I cannot wait to ship this one out as soon as the sun decides to pop it's head out.
The last of the palettes is similar to the MUA but with larger chunks of shimmer (not glitter, though!) so is ready for a more dramatic look. The BYS Metallics shades are all yellow-gold undertoned but would suit any skin type. I've worn this lightly and it looks great but would also suit someone with darker skin and anyone brave enough to go flu throttle for an intense golden eye.
The
Maybelline Color Tattoo pots are hands down my most work shadows. They have incredible staying power, great pigmentation, brilliant range of colours and shades, small, easy-to-travel-with packaging... the list goes on. I couldn't recommend these enough, especially if you're like me and pretty lazy when it comes to eye makeup (the cream formula means no fallout and no cleanup). They look great on their own, swept over the lid, or paired up to create more dimension. My favourites colours are
On and On Bronze,
Metallic Pomegranate, and
Permanent Taupe.
Lastly, the
NYX Single Eyeshadow range is great for a range of looks. Because you can pick and chose only the colours you want, you can keep it simple for a few neutral tones or build it up for a more intense look. Again, the pigmentation is great for the price and the shade range is fantastic. My favourites are Peach Bronze and
True Taupe.
Have you tried any of these shadows? What do you think? What're your favourite eyeshadows?
