40 Days of Meditation
Last week I posted about switching up giving up something for lent and instead adopting something into my every day for lent (see said post here).
One of the things I decided to take on is meditation. And so I wanted to share with you why I want to meditate more and incorporate it into my daily life.
I have been prone to stress, depression, anxiety, lethargy, and low self-confidence. Yup... it's more common than you think. Of course there are prescription drugs for all of these symptoms, but no drug will take away the cause of any of these and if you rely solely on pills, unfortunately you'll likely suffer a relapse in the future. Thankfully this isn't the only option!
Slowing down and becoming more mindful is incredibly helpful not only for people who are burning out, but everybody from all walks of life. Practicing eating mindfully, having more recharge time (whether that's with friends or in private), or practicing a craft instead of heading to Netflix for entertainment are all small ways of allowing your mind and body to slow down and get the most out of every day. That's why I'm promising myself at least 10 minutes of meditation every day for at least the next 40 days. It'll force me to press the pause button and reconnect with myself. No distractions. No busy thoughts. No pressure.
Practicing mindfulness and meditation will affect your entire self. Not only is it good for calming and focusing the mind, but it also helps strengthen and revitalise the body. From lowering blood pressure and releasing headaches to increasing creativity and focus, it's practically a miracle (find out more here).
Having been through rough patches in 2015, I'm more determined than ever to make 2016 great and the only way I know how to ensure that is by taking care of myself. Here's to starting from the inside out!
