30 Day Resolution Challenge 2017

This year, as I was thinking about what I'd like to give up or work harder at, I couldn't find one primary thing I wanted to focus on. Instead I live by the simple ethos that encompasses a range of lifestyle choices, preferred habits and daily rituals. There are so many parts of myself and my life that I am constantly looking at in greater detail and adapting and improving. So why stick to one (usually unobtainable) thing that I'll have forgotten about come May?

So instead, I'm choosing 12 things I'd like to focus on this year - one for each month of 2017. At the beginning of each month I'll decide which resolution I want to focus on - because it should be something fun and something to look forward to rather than a punishment or something to dread. So by giving myself a choice (and not predetermining which focus for which month) I'll be excited to try something new and decide what feels good at the time.

For the month of January I have chosen to focus on mindful eating. I am famously (amongst friends and family... don't try to google this) a scoffer. I eat fast. Very fast. And not only this but I'll eat every scrap on my plate... even when I've long been full. So to tackle this problem - and give my digestive system a break - I'm practicing mindful chewing (AKA actually chewing) and listening to my body when it tells me I am full.

Sounds simple, I know, but for someone who mindlessly stuffs their face and compulsively licks up every morsel this is a challenge. It's a challenge in the same way someone who wants to stop biting their nails just can't (yes, I've been there, too). It's not a conscious choice and it happens before I can even clock it. So I am making a concerted effort to slow down, feel what it feels like to feel the food fill my belly.

At the end of each month my 'resolution' should have become habitual and a little easier to maintain. This doesn't mean I can give up and skip to the next thing on the first of each new month, but keep practicing each 'resolution' while focusing on the new one. So by the end of the year I should have 12 new healthy habits under my belt.

Sound good? Want to join me?

I'll be posting about each of my 'resolutions' every month so you can come along with me. I'd recommend you choosing something each month that you'd really love to try or change so that you can get exactly what you need, but if you're out of ideas or don't know where to start, you're welcome to do mine with me.

I'll also be posting updates, challenges, ideas, insights, low points, high points, advice and much more on TwitterInstagram and Facebook – so let's get resolving together!
