5 Small Things That Have Changed My Life
Bullet Journalling
Being an entrepreneur, things can get a little crazy; I've always got more projects on the go then I can count on one hand and my to-do lists are seemingly endless. Writing things down is the best way to work stress-free and get things out of my head, onto paper, and made into a reality. I've always had notebooks, pads, task lists and scraps of paper kicking around, disappearing and getting lost in the herd. But with bullet journalling, I've got one place for all of my lists, dates and to-dos... and the best part is that I can customise it any time I like to suit my mood, schedule and current project. This is something that's been a complete life-changer (no, really). I am now more organised than ever and get way more done in any given day than I ever have before.
Waking Up Earlier
Getting a head-start on my day always makes more time for my multiple projects, jobs and tasks as well as allowing me more time to care for myself – in the form of nutritious meals, time to relax and a moments to breathe. Rolling out of bed late morning may be a special treat on the occasional Sunday, but in reality I love getting out of bed (and not back in) around 7am every morning. By midday I feel like I've accomplished a huge amount and crossed out multiple to-do items. Not only am I more productive, but I feel lighter, happier and more in tune with myself and – not to sound too wishy washy – nature. I believe we're meant to wake up with the sun and sleep with the moon and I, for one, certainly feel the benefits when I'm more in sync with this cycle.
DIY Toiletries
Making my own bathroom and beauty products has been such an eye-opener, not only to the needless ingredients pumped into most shop-bought products (um, no thank you), but also to the ease and enjoyment of making my own. My skin has never looked or felt better, I've never looked forward to using products so much (and running out so that I can make them again!) and my purse thanks me, too.
Crafting / Hobbying
It's so important to spend time doing something you love just because you love it. We spend a lot of our lives doing things for money (don't get me started on the absurdity of a 5-day work week) or because we feel like it will benefit us in the future (how many of us slog to the gym because we feel we have to?). But there is a lot to be said for doing things just because you enjoy doing it. I love to create things with my hands (clay pots, crocheted blankets, skin products, drawings) which totally calms me down and adds a great deal of happiness to my life. If we indulge in our hobbies a little bit every day or every week our health improves, too. Our brains change with everything we do, so it's important to do a variety of tasks that involve different parts of your brain (if you work at a computer all day, get off the screen in the evenings and do something physical). I not only pick up new skills and abilities, but it's also a chance to expand your mind and connect with other people.
Blog + YouTube
Since starting my blog (back in 2013), I have had this creative outlet that let's me express myself in a way that feels most natural and comfortable to me. I love writing and my blog just seems like an extension of myself... it was always an inevitability. I've also always tried my hand at video-blogging (I believe my first video dates as far back as far as 2004). Now that I'm taking my YouTube channel more seriously (rather than dipping my toe in and fearing for my life), I've found that the community I've always wanted to be a part of is right there waiting for me to jump in. I've discovered interesting, beautiful and creative people to inspire me and a platform to connect with other like-minded people.
